certain things get certain people really excited. for me, it's ice cream and brownies. tonight i discovered one of the things that makes jo really excited.
we are technologically challenged as a general rule. we do not understand how to make computer programs work. on many an occasion i have called up friends to help me make my email work or facebook work for me. in fact, it is probably a miracle i can even make this blog post. pretty much we're grandmas.
because of our predicament we are constantly searching for new ways to improve our computer skills. tonight as i was getting ready for bed jo starts yelling at me about all her nifty programs that she found on her computer. what she found was the speech recognition.
upon discovering this new gadget, she got really excited and yelled, "Ooh! I can train my computer like a dog! it can understand me! this was made for me. it was made for jo." and then she got up and started doing a victory dance; the classic hand circle one. she continued to squeal in excitement and dance around the room.
because of her computer's increased intelligence, she decided to name her brilliant computer. her first thought was to name it after herself but "it is way to smart to be a jo." therefore the chosen name is "shark-bait-ooh-haha." way more intelligent.
she has now been alternating between freaking out about how cool it is and talking to her computer and making it type things that she doesn't really need typed.
tonight, we celebrate our progression. tonight, we took a giant step. tonight, we bridged one of the gaps between technology and our challenges. tonight, we made progress.

chapter 2: in which i become a piece of paper
jo is our fhe momma. and because we are roommates, her calling is my calling, and vice versa. so tonight, we needed to go chat with all the apartments in our family so that we could help them remember to come to fhe so we don't have to hunt them down. anyway, we needed to visit them. in order to do this, we need the apartment numbers and because we don't have very good memories when it comes to apartment numbers, jo needed to write down the numbers on something. in this case, my hand.
i don't like writing on my hand. some people are just fine with it. i, however, feel weird flashbacks to junior high where we played the stupid game where if you looked at the name on your hand, you had to go ask that boy out. but i digress, back to the story.
instead of asking me to write the numbers on my hand or grabbing a piece of paper, jo grabs my hand and starts writing on it. naturally, i am a little startled so i yell, "hey, that's my temple! why are you writing on my temple?" because my body is a temple. also a reason why i don't love writing on my hand. but jo just looks at me and says, "well it wouldn't show up on me!"
and that right there is one reason why i love her. also it is the reason why there is writing on my hand tonight.

chapter 1: in which we meet
for the record, i am a short, white girl from utah. i am about as white as you can get. my roommate, jo, is not. she is a tall, beautiful black girl from ghana. she is my chocolate and i am her vanilla.
i met jo when i walked in on her after the shower. i opened the door and took one look at her in her towel and began to blush and apologize because you see, it is not a habit of mine to walk in on people in their towels. all jo did was laugh and say "don't worry about it. i got five sisters." this, my friends, was the beginning of our wonderful friendship.
we have continued in about the same fashion ever since. and this is our blog in which we enjoy our differences and share our world of chocolate and vanilla.
